Bamboo paintings, adorned with depictions of colorful birds, rank among the most recurring and celebrated themes in Eastern culture.
Traditionally, the artist leaves a personal mark through seals or stamps (印鑑), often carved in jade, using a red paste (朱砂) to authenticate the work. It is also customary for these paintings to be accompanied by a poem, a phrase, or an auspicious word, inscribed in traditional Chinese script.
Materials: "chinese inks" applied over "xuanzhi" paper, commonly known as rice paper.
Technique: traditional eastern brush painting.
The paintings are basically performed in a japanese sumie (or sumi-e) technique with some personal creative touches by the artist. Each brush stroke is unique and made in a continuous movement. Once a brush stroke is drawn on the rice paper it becomes irreversible, barely retouchable and impossible either to be hidden erased any more.
